Devin is a self taught artist and history instructor at the International School of Louisiana. He is also founder of the Lundi Gras Red Beans and Rice Parade, (see history of the beaners and their primary sponsor Camellia Beans).  This premiere gallery exhibition includes imagery of people from New York to New Orleans and all places in between.  A reflection of the characters and the idiosyncracies that make up life.  Devin works in acrylics, sequins and thread on both wood and canvas.  His imagery is both cartoonish and specific reflecting on light imagery and serious events.  Some of his most recent mural work can be seen just blocks from the gallery at 4609 Freret Street - "The Soul is Waterproof".

Devin Meyers | Artist Statement

My artwork comes from the desire to create laughter or moments of whimsy in my daily experience and that of those around me. By transforming everyday objects into colorful and vibrant works I bring my imagination to life. My most important goal is to make our days more enjoyable, even if for just a fleeting moment.

I also embrace the stress-free world of folk art. As a self-taught artist, I find comfort in the ability to improvise and allow mistakes to occur as part of the creative process. It is not to say that I do not work hard, but my artwork is created with an intentional disregard. This is best embodied by my art-car and street installations.

My artwork comes in various forms: glitter graffiti, hot-glued beans, and ultra colorful paintings on everyday objects such as my truck, door frames, reclaimed political signs, and shoes. I am currently working on illustrating a children’s-book-for-adults about New Orleans and making Glitter-dinosaurs around New Orleans.
